Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Temyia Taiaroa was suspended for 7 days

FACTS:

Apprentice Jockey T Taiaroa confirmed that she admitted a breach of the Excessive Whip Rule.

EVIDENCE:

The films of the incident where shown and it was pointed out that Miss Taiaroa had struck her mount at least 7 times prior to the 100 metre mark. Riding Master K Clapperton stated the films showed it all and that neither she nor the Jockey had anything to add.

SUBMISSIONS ON PENALTY:

Stipendiary Steward K Coppins stated that Miss Taiaroa has had 3 breaches of this Rule in the last 6 months, those being 18/6/22 where a fine of $250 was imposed, 16/7/22 a fine of $500 was imposed and on 3/8/22 she received a 6 day suspension.  He indicated her record was not good. Jockey T Taiaroa did not request a deferment.

REASON FOR PENALTY:

The Rule was clearly breached and the record of Miss Taiaroa under this Rule is not good for an Apprentice Jockey at the early stages of her career.

CONCLUSION:

A 7 day suspension was imposed, starting after the end of racing on 13/11/22 and ending after the completion of racing on 24/11/22.
