Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Corey Campbell is suspended for 5 days

Mr Davidson alleged that in Race 3, Mr Campbell (PULL THE PIN) rode carelessly in that he shifted ground outwards passing the 200 metres, crowding TAP’N’GO, which had to check.

Miss Haley demonstrated on the videos that the Respondent was racing just forward of mid-field near the fence passing the 200 metre mark in the home straight. He shifted out as he struck his mount. There was originally a gap for him to shift into but in taking in the run, he shifted outwards, crowding TAP’N’GO. He was not his length and another clear at this time.

Mr Campbell said he had moved a little bit. There was also movement from the horse on the outside (MAWKEB).  He was not aware at the time that he was shifting ground.

Decision

As Mr Campbell has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson produced the Respondent’s record, which evidenced 4 previous breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. Two were in March last year and thus just outside the 12 month reset. The other 2 breaches were in November at Wingatui and in January at Riccarton. They were low range.

Mr Davidson described the breach as low range, saying “the major damage” in the incident was caused by the outside horse. While Mr Campbell had not moved a lot, he had put Mr Callaway (TAP’N’GO) in difficulty.

Mr Campbell confirmed his record and agreed that the breach was low end.

Reasons for Penalty

The Penalty Guide provides a 5-day starting point for a low range breach. While Mr Campbell  has had 4 previous breaches of this Rule, 2 are just outside the reset period and, in that time, he has had 241 rides. He has admitted the breach. A penalty at the starting point is appropriate.

Conclusion

Mr Campbell is suspended from the end of racing today, up to and including 15 February 2026. This is 5 National Riding days.
