Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Corey Campbell is suspended for 6 days

Mr Davidson alleged that Mr Campbell (INFLAMED) shifted ground inwards in Race 6, when not sufficiently clear passing the 1100 metres, crowding and checking SHOES, which clipped a heel.

Mr Oatham demonstrated on the videos that shortly after the start in Race 6 Mr Campbell, who started from barrier 6, in racing to the front shifted inwards and came across onto Mr Cooper (SHOES), when not his length and another clear. Mr Cooper clipped heels, and Ms Comignaghi (TIKKI) had to check her mount.

Mr Campbell said INFLAMED had jumped well enough and he had come across and Mr Cooper had had to take a hold. He agreed he was not clear. There had been no yelling at the time.

Decision

As Mr Campbell has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson produced the Respondent’s record, which showed 2 breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. He described the breach as mid-range, considering that Mr Cooper had clipped heels.

Mr Campbell stated he accepted Mr Davidson’s submissions and wished the suspension to start after racing at Wyndham next Sunday.

Reasons for Penalty

Mr Campbell has shifted ground inwards when not his length and another clear of Mr Cooper, who has clipped heels and Ms Comignaghi has had to check her mount.

It is a mid-range breach and from a 7-day starting point, there is a one-day reduction for admission of the breach and Mr Campbell’s record, when consideration is given to the fact he is a busy South Island Rider.

Conclusion

Mr Campbell is suspended from the end of racing on 9 March, up to and including Wednesday 19 March 2025. This is 6 national riding days.
