EVIDENCE:
Following the running of Race 1, Stipendiary Steward Mr Mark Davidson presented an Information alleging a breach of Rule 638(3)(g)(i) by Class A Jockey Mr Corey Campbell.
Mr Campbell stated he was conversant with the Rule, the Charge, and confirmed he admitted the breach.
Mr Davidson played the relevant videos to identify Mr Campbell in behind the leaders entering the home straight, and pointed to him strike his mount 6 times prior to the 100m mark.
Mr Campbell had nothing to add.
 DECISION:
The Respondent having admitted the breach, the Charge was deemed to be proved.
 SUBMISSIONS FOR PENALTY:
Mr Davidson said Mr Campbell was warned on 28 December 2022 at Timaru and was fined $900 in a Listed Race at Riverton on 8th April 2023. Â Mr Davidson said the rail is out a long way today and the track is very testing. He said a fine commiserate with the Guidelines is in order.
Mr Campbell made no submissions.
REASONS FOR PENALTY:
The Penalty Guidelines provide a $500 fine for a third offence with one additional strike.
Mr Campbell has gone on to win this race, however, the testing conditions and the way ARCTIC GLOW finished, the Adjudicative Committee find this factor had no direct bearing on the result of the race. Accordingly, it considers the appropriate Penalty is a $500 fine.
 CONCLUSION:
Jockey Corey Campbell is fined $500.
