Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Corey Campbell is suspended for 6 days

Mr Davidson alleged that in Race 7, Mr Campbell (CAPO DELL IMPERO) failed to ride his mount out fully to the finish, when he had a chance of finishing 4th.

Mr Davidson demonstrated on the videos, that the Respondent was racing on the rail as his horse neared the winning post. He relaxed his ride some 2 strides from the post. He believed if Mr Campbell had continued to push his mount out, he had a reasonable chance of finishing 4th. The margin between 4th and 5th was half a head.

Mr Campbell said his mount was carrying 60kg and was stopping. He agreed with the Stewards that he had relaxed his ride. He thought he was going to hold 4th comfortably and was not aware of the other horse. He added that CAPO DELL IMPERO had slowed quite significantly after he relaxed his ride.

Decision

As Mr Campbell has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

He referred to recent comparator cases where suspensions of between 9 and 14 days had been imposed for a breach of this Rule where the horse had a reasonable chance of finishing 4th.
