Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Corey Campbell is suspended for 6 days

Mr Davidson alleged that Mr Campbell (CLOCHE) shifted ground outwards in Race 7 when not sufficiently clear, making contact with ROYAL SOVEREIGNS (K Myers), which was forced out on to heels passing the 350 metres.

Mr Oatham demonstrated on the drone footage videos that Mr Campbell was on the fence near the rear of the field. He improved his mount, making an angled run outwards. There was not sufficient room, and he came into contact with ROYAL SOVEREIGNS, which was pushed outwards on to heels passing the 350 metres. He acknowledged the incident looked worse, because other horses were also shifting ground.

Mr Campbell said he was going better than ROYAL SOVEREIGNS at the time and he saw a gap. He thought he could get into it first. It was competitive riding, but he did not get there first.

Decision

As Mr Campbell has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson referred to the Respondent’s record, which showed 2 breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. There was of course, a further breach in the previous race today. Mr Davidson described the breach as at the low end, but noted it was a Listed Race.

Mr Campbell stated he accepted Mr Davidson’s submissions and asked was there any way the suspension could be deferred after he had served the earlier deferred suspension. He was informed that the Rules did not permit this.

Reasons for Penalty

Mr Campbell has shifted ground outwards when not clear of Ms Myers, who has been forced outwards.

It is a low range breach and from a 5-day starting point, there is a two-day increase for the status of the race and record, with there now being 2 careless riding breaches in successive races. There is a one-day reduction for admission of the breach.

Decision

Mr Campbell is suspended from the end of racing on Wednesday 19 March, until the conclusion of racing on Saturday 29 March 2025. This is 6 national riding days.
