Stipendiary Steward (trainee)
The Racing Integrity Board (RIB) plays a vital role in safeguarding fairness and public confidence in New Zealand’s racing industry and we’re offering a unique opportunity to begin your career in racing integrity through our trainee steward positions.
Stipendiary Stewards are at the heart of racing integrity — overseeing race days and ensuring every race is run safely, fairly and in line with the Rules of Racing. It’s a dynamic, hands-on role where every day brings something different. The position covers responsibilities across both thoroughbred and harness racing, with a particular focus on one code based on preference and experience.
What you’ll do
- Be an active member of the stewarding team at race meetings across the region.
- Review and analyse races to ensure they are conducted fairly and in compliance with the Rules of Racing.
- Support wagering integrity processes through collaboration with betting analysts, including the assessment of race form and the analysis of race performance.
- Conduct inquiries and support decision-making where rules are breached or concerns arise.
- Engage with trainers, riders and officials to ensure racing is conducted safely and in line with regulatory requirements.
- Complete a range of non-race day work including stable, venue and track inspections and oversee trials, workouts and jump-outs.
- Undertake routine welfare checks, working alongside veterinarians and trainers to help ensure high standards of animal welfare are maintained.
- Assist with the delivery of our prohibited substance management program, including supporting the sampling process and assisting investigations as required.
Who You Are
- You’re confident, fair-minded and able to make good decisions under pressure.
- You value integrity, animal welfare and fair competition.
- You have an interest in racing and ideally an interest in horse husbandry and/or wagering.
- You’re keen to learn and build your skills as you grow in the role.
- You work well in a team and communicate clearly with a wide range of people.

- You’re analytical, curious and able to interpret information objectively.
- You’re adaptable and comfortable working varied hours when required.
You’ll benefit from full training and close mentoring from experienced Stewards, helping you build the capabilities needed for a successful career in racing integrity.
Location
The role will be based in the Waikato / Auckland region.
This is a permanent fulltime role (40 hours per week). You will work to a roster, which will include evenings and weekends, based on when races are scheduled.

Senior Investigator
The Racing Integrity Board (RIB) plays a critical role in protecting fairness, safety and public confidence across New Zealand’s racing industry. We’re looking for an experienced investigator who cares about integrity, animal welfare and professionalism — and wants to make a real impact in racing.
Senior Investigators lead complex, often high-profile investigations into potential breaches of the rules of racing. This role suits someone with strong investigative skills, sound judgement and the ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including law enforcement, analytical laboratories and industry participants.
What you’ll do
- Lead investigations into alleged breaches of the rules of racing, including matters relating to drug positives, wagering integrity, animal welfare concerns and misconduct.
- Develop robust, risk-based investigation plans and ensure risks are identified and managed.
- Interview participants, witnesses and other stakeholders to gather reliable information.
- Prepare and present cases for disciplinary hearings, including evidence, legal documents and witness coordination.
- Manage human prohibited substance testing operations, including liaison with accredited laboratories and ensuring the integrity of testing processes.
- Investigate animal welfare concerns and coordinate timely, effective responses with the responsible agencies.
- Produce high quality and comprehensive investigative reports for internal and external audiences.
- Work collaboratively with industry bodies, trainers, owners, veterinarians and enforcement agencies.
Who You Are
- An experienced investigator (4+ years), ideally with a background in law enforcement or regulatory environments. Racing experience is an advantage but not a requirement.
- Skilled at analysing information, planning investigations and making sound, evidence-based decisions.
- Confident in interviews, report writing, presenting cases and managing sensitive information.
- Calm under pressure, able to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing circumstances.
- A strong communicator who builds constructive relationships and handles conflict professionally.
- Someone who values integrity, fairness and animal welfare, and is motivated by high standards.
Location
The role can be based in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington or Christchurch. Other locations can be discussed for the right candidate.
This is a permanent fulltime role (40 hours per week). Travel and working flexibility will be required to manage investigations and prohibited substance testing across racing regions.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and forward-thinking financial professional to take ownership of the Racing Integrity Board’s (RIB) financial management, reporting, and strategic financial direction. You will provide trusted insights and advice to the Executive and Board, directly contributing to organisational performance, resilience, and overall effectiveness.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Executive Manager of Corporate Services, the Finance Manager leads the financial function for the RIB, ensuring strong financial leadership, compliance, and high-quality advice. As the RIB continues its transition from an outsourced model, a key focus will be reviewing and improving systems, processes, and ways of working, while partnering across the organisation to strengthen financial capability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading budgeting, forecasting, management accounting and monthly financial reporting.
- Managing financial risk and ensuring robust internal controls
- Overseeing cash flow, payroll, and statutory compliance
- Providing timely, high-quality financial advice to the Executive and Board
- Ensuring financial systems (including Xero and Smartly) are fit for purpose and continuously improving
- Coaching and developing your direct report – Finance Administrator
About you
The ideal candidate will have:
- A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
- A CA/CPA qualification (essential)
- 5+ years of experience in a financial management role.
- Strong experience in financial and management accounting, budgeting, analysis, and forecasting.
- Proven experience enhancing and establishing finance systems and processes.
- Experience coaching or developing junior finance staff.
- High proficiency with Excel, financial systems, and payroll. RIB uses Xero and Smartly Payroll.
