Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Ciel Butler is suspended for 2 days and fined $500

FACTS

Ms Ciel Butler, the Rider of ‘BARRI HYDE’, admitted a breach of Rule 638(3)(g)(i).  The breach being that she struck her mount 6 times with the whip prior to the 100m (5 is the limit).

Ms Butler admitted the breach and said that she understood the Rule and charge.

Film replays were clear in showing the 6 strikes being applied.

DECISION

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

PENALTY SUBMISSIONS

The record showed that this was Ms Butler’s fourth breach of the Rule in six months.  The last penalty imposed was 2-days suspension and a fine of $500 (10 March 2023).

Ms Clapperton said that the strikes were not aggressive.

REASONS FOR PENALTY

Ms Butler’s record was taken into consideration as was the Penalty Guide starting point.

CONCLUSION

Ms Butler’s Apprentice Jockey’s Licence was suspended from end of racing on 13 May to 17 May inclusive (2-days), and a fine of $500 imposed.
