FACTS
Mr Callum Jones, Rider of “IMPREVU” admitted a breach of Rule 638(1)(d).
It was alleged by the Applicant that Mr Jones allowed his mount to shift outwards when not sufficiently clear of “ARJAY’S FLIGHT” which was hampered and forced wider inside the final 100m.
Mr Jones said that he understood the Rule, Charge and confirmed that he admitted the breach.
Although all films had been viewed at an earlier hearing (Protest) they were viewed again as this Information was a charge of careless riding.
Mr Dooley identified the interference and said that while interference was occurring, due to “IMPREVU” shifting out on “ARJAY’S FLIGHT”, Mr Jones continued to ride forward.
Mr Jones said that he did have trouble with the peak of his cap flopping about and did not realise interference was happening until Trudy (Ms Thornton) called out.
He added his horse was a little green.
DECISION
As the charge was admitted along with the crystal clear film evidence, the charge was found proved.
PENALTY SUBMISSIONS
The record showed two prior breaches of the Rule during the last 12 months:
24.10.2022 – 5 day suspension
22.06.2022 – 4 day suspension
Mr Dooley placed the carelessness in the mid-range and said an aggravating feature was that Mr Jones’ horse was relegated at an earlier hearing.
Mr Marsh did not make comment.
Mr Jones said that the relegation was a penalty in itself.
REASONS FOR PENALTY
The Committee adopted the Penalty Guide starting point of 7-day suspension for mid-range carelessness. An uplift of one day was given due to the relegation, with a one day discount afforded for the admitted breach.
PENALTY
Mr C Jones’ Apprentice Jockey’s Licence was suspended from 17 July through to and including 29 July 2022 (7 National Riding Days).
