Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Corey Campbell is suspended for 4 days

Mr Davidson alleged that Mr Campbell allowed his mount BOURBON CHIQUE in Race 6, to shift ground inwards passing the 50 metres, checking SACRED DREAM (Mr B Murray).

Miss Haley demonstrated on the videos that Mr Campbell was riding out his mount at the finish of Race 6, when he shifted in when not clear, and Mr Murray had to take a hold of SACRED DREAM and check his mount.

Mr Davidson added that Mr Campbell had not shifted in a lot, but he had continued to shift in when using the whip.

Mr Campbell said it was a tight finish. His horse had shifted in slightly under pressure. He knew he was shifting in, but did not think he had moved that much. He agreed he had kept using the whip.

Decision

As Mr Campbell has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson produced the Respondent’s record, which was very good, with no breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. Mr Campbell has had 340 rides this past year. He described the breach as at the low end, taking into account the horse had not moved a lot.

Mr Campbell stated he accepted Mr Davidson’s submissions and wished the suspension to start after racing at Riccarton next Saturday.

Reasons for Penalty

Mr Campbell has shifted ground inwards when not his length and another clear of Mr Murray, who has had to check his mount. Mr Campbell was aware his mount was shifting ground and has continued to use the stick knowing there were horses to his inside.

It is a low range breach and from a 5-day starting point, there is a one-day reduction for admission of the breach and Mr Campbell’s very good record.

Conclusion

Mr Campbell is suspended from the end of racing next Saturday 20 January up to and including 27 January 2024. This is 4 days.
