Penalty: Jockey Darryl Bradley fined $500

Summary of Facts:

Rider Darryl Bradley, after viewing the incident on film, agreed with Stipendiary Steward Mr Coppins’ assessment of the incident in which he struck his mount with his whip 3 times in consecutive strides in the final 100 metres. Although admitting the charge, Mr Bradley informed  the Adjudicative Committee that his mount was travelling greenly when he went for a gap and over reacted. He attempted to correct with the whip and miscounted.

Reasons for Decision:

As the breach was admitted it was deemed proved.

Submissions on Penalty:

Stipendiary Steward Mr Coppins asked for a monetary penalty as per the Guidelines. Rider Darryl Bradley asked for the penalty to be one of a suspension citing financial pressures as the reason.

Reasons for Penalty:

Mr Bradley was informed that the Guidelines came into force on the 1st of March and on this occasion it would not be deemed appropriate to differ from the Guidelines.

Conclusion:

Jockey Darryl Bradley was fined $500.
