Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Mereana Hudson was suspended for 7 days

FACTS

Mereana Hudson admitted a breach of the Careless Riding Rule in that she allowed her mount LEDHAVEN CASSIE to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear of MISS FIREBALL (C Grylls), which was checked and OSCAR (J Riddell), which was also checked.

The films of the incident were shown and commented on by Stipendiary Steward N Goodwin. They confirmed the inward movement by LEDHAVEN CASSIE onto the two horses concerned. Jockey M Hudson did attempt to straighten after the first movement inwards, but then allowed her mount to move inwards again, increasing the pressure on the horses on her inside.

Both of the Riders affected had to take hold of their mounts, eliminating their chances of finishing in a higher  placing.

It was confirmed that it was LEDHAVEN CASSIE’S  first start and she did race greenly. However, there was ample opportunity to ensure the movement inward was corrected.

Jockey M Hudson had little to add. She did reiterate that the horse’s greenness added to, and contributed to the incident.

DECISION

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

SUBMISSIONS ON PENALTY

Stipendiary Steward N Goodwin indicated he believed the breach was mid range. Two horses were affected and he felt there was every opportunity for Jockey M Hudson to straighten her mount.

Jockey M Hudson had not been long back riding after a 9 month break and has had 92 rides since her return.  She has had one breach of this Rule since her comeback.

Jockey M Hudson had little comment, but did ask for any suspension to begin after racing on 1/2/25.

REASONS FOR PENALTY

The Adjudicative Committee considered the breach was above mid range. Two horses were affected and their chances were severely affected.

It was acknowledged the charge was admitted, but no allowance for this could be accorded. The horse did race a little greenly, but there was ample opportunity for Jockey M Hudson to correct her mount. A deferment asked for, was agreed to.

CONCLUSION

Jockey M Hudson was suspended from race riding for 7 days, beginning after the completion of racing on 1/2/25 and ending after racing on 12/2/25.
