Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Class A Rider Mereana Hudson is suspended for 6 days

Mr Davidson alleged that Ms Hudson rode carelessly in Race 5, in that she allowed her mount MARELLA MISS to shift outwards when not fully clear of BLUE GODDESS, which was dictated outwards onto SAVIOUR, which was crowded and checked near the 250 metres.

Mr Munro demonstrated on the videos that Ms Hudson was racing to the inside of BLUE GODDESS (Ms Riddell) as the field exited the final bend. Ms Hudson shifted out when not clear and Ms Riddell was dictated outwards onto SAVIOUR (Mr Najib), which was pushed out on to the heels of OCEAN BOULEVARD (Mr Kauri).

Ms Hudson said MARELLA MISS was on the wrong leg on the corner. It was a big horse and was not cornering properly. She accepted, however, she had stepped out a bit.

Decision

As Ms Hudson has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson produced the Respondent’s record, which showed 5 breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. These were all low or mid-range breaches. Ms Hudson has had 380 rides this season. Mr Davidson described the breach as low to mid-range.

Ms Hudson stated the record was accurate and she accepted Mr Davidson’s description of the breach. She wished the suspension to start after the meeting on the 20th of December.

Reasons for Penalty

Ms Hudson has shifted ground outwards when not her length and another clear of BLUE GODDESS, which was dictated outwards and SAVIOUR was pushed out on to the heels of OCEAN BOULEVARD and checked as a consequence.  The breach is correctly categorised as low to mid-range. The starting point is 6 days. Balancing Ms Hudson’s record with her admission of the breach, a penalty at the starting point is appropriate.

Conclusion

Ms Hudson is suspended from the end of racing on 20 December, up to and including 30 December 2025. This is 6 national riding days.
