Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Junior Driver Alana Cameron is suspended for 3 days

EVIDENCE:

Following the running of Race 10, Stipendiary Steward Mr Matt Sole presented an Information alleging a breach of Rule 869(3)(b) by Driver Ms Alana Cameron.

Ms Cameron stated she was conversant with the Rule, understood the Charge and confirmed she admitted the breach. Miss Cameron had wavered any assistance at the hearing.

Mr Sole identified Ms Cameron racing behind the leading bunch and held up approaching the 200m. He pointed to Ms Cameron finding clear racing room and driving her horse up behind the eventual winner BEST TRIO, then shift sharply inwards into a half gap, checking FRANCO HOFFMAN (W House) and MIGHTY REACTOR (M Williamson), at approximately 50 metres from the winning post.

Mr Sole said it was the abrupt nature of the manoeuvre the Stewards had concerns with, resulting in 2 horses being checked.

Ms Cameron said her horse tended to run in and it was full of running, which contributed to the incident.

DECISION:

The Respondent having admitted the breach, the charge was deemed to be proved.

SUBMISSIONS FOR PENALTY:

Mr Sole stated Ms Cameron has had 1 previous breach under the Rule within the last 6 months, at Rangiora 2 drives ago. He said Ms Cameron has had 39 drives this season and 54 in the past season.

Mr Sole said the Stewards having regard that this is Ms Cameron’s second breach, a suspension of 4 days is submitted as an appropriate Penalty.

Ms Cameron made no submissions on Penalty.

REASONS FOR PENALTY:

The Penalty Guidelines provide a 4-day suspension starting point for a second or subsequent breach of the Rule.

Ms Cameron, a Junior Driver, has admitted the breach immediately and the Adjudicative Committee finds a 3-day suspension under the circumstances of this case, is considered a fair and reasonable sanction.

CONCLUSION:

Junior Driver Ms Alana Cameron’s Licence to drive in races is suspended from the conclusion of racing 9 June 2023,  up to and including racing on 18 June 2023.
