Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Rauhul Beemud was suspended for 5 National Riding Days

SUMMARY OF FACTS:

At the conclusion of Race 5, the NZB Insurance Pearl Series Race, the Stipendiary Steward presented an Information contending that Apprentice Rider, Mr R Beemud, the Rider of  “TIDAL RUSH” committed a breach of Rule 638(3)(g)(i) in that he struck his mount with the whip 6 times prior to the point 100m from the finish.

Mr Beemud, assisted by Mr Harris admitted the breach.

Mrs Selvakumaran illustrated the breach from the race film which disclosed that whilst in contention to be close to leading, Mr Beemud struck ”TIDAL RUSH” 6 times in the home straight prior to the 100 metre mark.

DECISION:

As the breach was admitted, it was deemed proved.

SUBMISSIONS FOR PENALTY:

Mrs Selvakumaran advised the Adjudicative Committee that Mr Beemud has had 3 previous breaches of the “Whip Rule” over the past 6 months (since 20 November 2021) and a suspension was sought.

Mr Harris on behalf of Mr Beemud advised that because of COVID-19 it has not been possible to have Apprentice Training sessions so as to impress upon the inexperienced the impact of this Rule. He accepted that a suspension was required.

REASONS FOR PENALTY:

After considering the evidence from all parties, the Adjudicative Committee determined that a suspension would be the appropriate penalty in this case.

CONCLUSION:

Mr Beemud’s licence is suspended for 5 National Riding Days.  As he has no committed riding engagements during the next 7 or 10 days, the suspension is to commence at the conclusion of racing today 16 February 2022 and to end at the conclusion of racing on 24 February 2022.
