Penalty: Jockey Jonathan Riddell is fined $500

FACTS:

Mr Riddell the Rider of “THELONGERULOOK”, admitted a breach of Rule 638(3)(g)(i) in that he struck his mount 6 times with his whip prior to the 100 metres (5 is the limit).

Mr Riddell said that he understood the Rule, charge and confirmed that he admitted the breach.

The film replays were shown which clearly showed the 6 strikes prior to the 100m.

Mr Riddell said that he agreed with the Stipendiary Stewards that it was 6 strikes.

DECISION:

As the charge was admitted it was found proved.

PENALTY SUBMISSIONS:

Mr Oatham said that Mr Riddell had two previous breaches of the Rule in the last six months:

12 February 2022    –           Fined $500 (6 strikes)

12 March 2022         –           Fined $500 (6 strikes)

Mr Oatham referred to the Penalty Guide and said that in his opinion there were not any aggravating factors.

Mr Riddell did not have anything to add.

REASONS FOR PENALTY:

As there were not any aggravating features to consider, the starting point of a $500 fine was considered to be the appropriate penalty.

CONCLUSION:

Mr Riddell was fined $500.
