NZTR and HRNZ Directives and other general advice regarding Strangles.
Strangles is a highly contagious equine disease that is endemic in the New Zealand horse population.
To mitigate the risks to the health of Thoroughbred and Standardbred populations and consequent impacts on racing and other industry activities, NZ Thoroughbred Racing and Harness Racing NZ have respectively issued Directives that aim to assist the control and conclusion of outbreaks. The Racing Integrity Board’s role is in ensuring compliance with the Directives that have been issued.
