Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Tayla Mitchell is fined $500

Evidence:

Following the running of Race 9, the “Manawatu ITM Steeplechase Day Tomorrow at Woodville 1200”, Mr Goodwin presented an Information charging Ms Mitchell with a breach of the Whip Rule 638(3)(g)(i) in that she struck her mount “SUPER TIME” with the whip 7 times prior to the 100 metre mark.

Ms Mitchell admitted the charge.

The race films depicted that between the 200m and 100m marks, “SUPER TIME” was in contention (eventually finishing 2nd) and was struck with the whip by Ms Mitchell 7 times.

Decision:

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

Submissions for Penalty:

Mr Goodwin advised that Ms Mitchell had a relevant prior breach of this Rule.  Ms Mitchell accepted that a fine, in line with the Penalty Guide, was necessary.

Reasons for Penalty:

In keeping in line with the Penalty Guide, the Adjudicative Committee deemed it appropriate that a fine was a suitable sanction on this occasion.

Conclusion:

Accordingly, a fine of $500 was imposed on Ms Mitchell.
