Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Jockey Samantha Wynne is suspended for 4 days

Mr Davidson alleged that in Race 5, Ms Wynne (AMALFI COAST) rode carelessly in that she shifted ground outwards passing the 50 metres, crowding and checking RELENTLESS KAYDEN (L Hemi) and ZABORACI (T Moseley).

Miss Haley demonstrated on the videos, that Ms Wynne was riding out her mount at the finish of Race 5, when she shifted outwards when not clear, crowding and checking RELENTLESS KAYDEN and ZABORACI.

Mr Davidson stated there had been no protest, as AMALFI COAST had the other horses covered. He also believed Mr Mudhoo, who was racing to the outside of RELENTLESS KAYDEN and ZABORACI, had shifted in slightly. AMALFI COAST had been laying out in the straight. Ms Wynne had stopped riding on one occasion, but had gone back to the whip and there were 2 strikes that were of concern when AMALFI COAST shifted out quite sharply. Ms Wynne had just pushed the horse forward for the last 30 metres.

Ms Wynne did not disagree with the Stewards’ analysis. The horse had been laying out, but she accepted she had stopped riding AMALFI COAST out too late. She was trying really hard re careless riding and had thought the ones behind her had dropped away more than they had.

Decision

As Ms Wynne has admitted the breach, it is found to be proved.

Submissions as to Penalty

Mr Davidson produced the Respondent’s record, which showed 2 breaches of this Rule in the past 12 months. Ms Wynne had 2 breaches in quick succession in October last and nothing in the 6 months since. She has had 286 rides this past year. He described the breach as low range. He noted that Ms Wynne would be serving a suspension for whip use until 26 May.

Ms Wynne stated that she accepted Mr Davidson’s submissions.

Reasons for Penalty

Ms Wynne has shifted ground outwards in the home straight when not her length and another clear of the two horses to her outside, which were crowded near the finish of the race.

It is a low range breach and from a 5-day starting point, there is a one-day reduction for admission of the breach and Ms Wynne’s good record in the past 6 months.

Conclusion

Ms Wynne’s Licence to ride in races is suspended from 27 May, up to and including 1 June 2024. This is 4 national riding days.
