Manawatu RC 20 December 2025 – R7 – Lisa Latta

EVIDENCE:

Mr Goodwin presented an Information charging Ms Latta, the Trainer of BENEFACTOR in Race 7, the “HUMPHRIES CONSTRUCTION MANAWATU CUP”, with a breach of Rule 537(a) in that she failed to declare to the NZTR the name of its Rider by the required time.

The declared Rider, Mr C Dell, was not named until 7.37am on race morning.

Mr Goodwin explained the circumstances leading up to the breach of the Rule which were extenuating and posed a difficulty for Ms LATTA. This was a Group 3 Race and BENEFACTOR was weighted to carry 53kg. Although there had been available two Apprentice Riders who might make the weight, it was an unsuitable horse to be ridden by an Apprentice Jockey. Mr C Dell, although available, said he would be 1kg in excess of the carded weight. As it developed, he eventually advised he could make the 1/2kg over the 53kgs, so Ms Latta engaged him, but the declaration was late.

DECISION:

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

SUBMISSIONS FOR PENALTY:

Ms Latta has had recent previous breaches, so the Information had to be put before the Adjudicative Committee.

REASONS FOR PENALTY:

The minor offence schedule provides for a penalty of a $100 fine for a 2nd offence. Although this was a 3rd breach, the extenuating circumstances are mitigating and accordingly, a fine of $100 is imposed.

CONCLUSION:

Trainer Lisa Latta is fined $100.
