Outcome: Proved

Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Faye Lazet suspended 5 days

FACTS

Apprentice Jockey F Lazet admitted a breach of the Careless Riding Rule in that she allowed her mount VICTORTHEINFLICTOR to shift  in when not clear of TASTY COUNTESS, who in turn dictated the line of LADY POSH, causing tightening to FLERTA and UNSCRIPTED.

EVIDENCE

Stipendiary Steward N Goodwin, using the available film, pointed out the incident. Near the first bend at about the1000 metre mark, Jockey F Lazet angled her mount across and onto the the line of the horses on her inside. When realizing that she had come across when not the required distance clear, she did attempt to straighten, but by then, the other horses had their lines dictated to and their Riders had to take hold.

Riding Master K Clapperton indicated that she did look 2 or 3 times to her inside, and that the incident happened on the point of the bend.

She believed Miss Lazet was a little unlucky as she felt the movement was only about half a width.

DECISION

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

SUBMISSIONS ON PENALTY

It was pointed out that Jockey F Lazet has had two breaches of this Rule in the last 12 months, on 12/11/21 – a 4 day suspension and on 1 /4/22 – a 4 day  suspension. The Stipendiary Stewards informed the Adjudicative Committee that Miss Lazet was a sought after Apprentice and they viewed the incident to be in the mid range.

Jockey F Lazet asked for a deferment, allowing her to ride at the meeting on 11 November 2022.

REASONS FOR PENALTY

The Adjudicative Committee viewed the incident to be slightly below midrange. Although other horses were affected, the movement on the point of the bend was slight, and she did take corrective action albeit a little late. From a starting point of 6 days, her admittance of the breach and her record warranted a reduction to one of a 5 day penalty.

CONCLUSION

Allowing for the deferment, her suspension will commence after racing on 11 November 2022 and end after racing on 18 November 2022.
