Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Savish Khetoo is suspended 5 days

Miss Haley alleged that Mr Khetoo struck his mount RINGADINGDING with the whip seven times prior to the 100 metres.

Mr Oatham demonstrated on the video that when racing at the rear of the field Mr Khetoo struck his horse seven times prior to the 100 metres. Mr Khetoo and Ms Tyler agreed with this count.

Miss Haley produced Mr Khetoo’s record under the Whip Rule. This evidenced two previous breaches in the past six months. Mr Khetoo was fined $400 on 16 July for nine strikes and suspended for six days for 10 strikes on 25 July. Mr Oatham commented that Mr Khetoo has had 98 rides since the previous breach.

Miss Haley submitted a 5-day suspension was appropriate. Mr Khetoo did not disagree with this submission and he and Ms Tyler stated that the suspension should start as soon as possible as Mr Khetoo wished to ride at Riverton.

Mr Khetoo has struck his horse seven times in breach of the Whip Rule. His record under this Rule is not good. A suspension is appropriate .

Mr Khetoo is suspended for five National Days. He has no declared rides at Ashburton on 21 December. He is suspended from 20 December up to and including 28 December. He is reminded of his obligations under the Whip Rule.
