Outcome: Proved
Penalty: Apprentice Jockey Ace Lawson-Carroll is suspended for 5 days
FACTS:
Mr Lawson-Carroll admitted a breach of Careless Riding in Race 8.
The carelessness being that he permitted his mount “CHIKIRA LASS” to shift outwards when not sufficiently clear of “MORMAIRE” (M McNab) which was checked near the 400m resulting in “SEQUOIA DAWN” (F Lazet) also being checked.
In the presence of Ms Clapperton, Mr Lawson-Carroll said that he understood the Rule, charge and confirmed to the Adjudicative Committee that he admitted the breach.
All film replays were shown, with the horses and Riders involved being identified by Mr Oatham. Mr Oatham said “CHIKIRA LASS” had been racing on the fence, then it was shifted out around a horse when not clear, and that Mr McNab had to check his mount (MORMAIRE), who dropped back onto “SEQUOIA DAWN”, who received a more severe check. He said that Mr Lawson-Carroll was only one length clear when shifting.
Mr Lawson-Carroll said that he improved into spaces that he should not have.
He added that he has to concentrate more.
Ms Clapperton said that Mr Lawson-Carroll panicked a little and that it happened on a corner and that he came out two horse-widths instead of one.
DECISION:
Due to the breach being admitted, it was found proved.
PENALTY SUBMISSIONS:
Mr Lawson-Carroll has had approximately 280 rides in the last 12 months with his record being all clear.
The Stewards placed the careless riding in the low-mid range.
REASONS FOR PENALTY:
The Adjudicative Committee placed the carelessness in the mid-range category.
Mr Lawson-Carroll shifted out when only one length clear, causing Mr McNab to check his mount to avoid heels. As a consequence, his mount dropped back onto Ms Lazet’s mount “SEQUOIA DAWN”, who had to be relatively severely checked to also avoid heels.
The Penalty Guideline starting point is 7-days suspension for mid-range carelessness.
The Adjudicative Committee adopted a starting point of 7-days. However, due to Mr Lawson-Carroll’s excellent record and the admitted breach, a discount of two days was given.
CONCLUSION:
Mr Lawson-Carroll’s Apprentice Jockey’s Licence was suspended from close of racing on 17 December, through to all racing on 26 December 2022 (5-days).
