Rangitikei RC 17 May 2025 – R3 – Elle Sole

EVIDENCE:

Following the running of Race 3, “THE JOHN TURKINGTON FORESTRY / WAIPINE LOGGING BULLS COUNTRY CUP”, Stipendiary Steward Ms L Selvakumaran presented an Information charging Ms Sole with Careless Riding in breach of Rule 638(1)(d).

Ms Sole, assisted by Ms K Clapperton, admitted the charge.

The facts as alleged by the Informant, were clearly shown on the race films.  Ms Sole, riding “MEANDEEL”, was seeking cover from the outside barrier draw and, at about the 1800 metre mark, she allowed her mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of “THE COSSACK” (Ms L Hemi).  This had to be checked so that it had to go back onto “MR FABULOUS” (Mr T Bau).  That horse was checked, although it had already begun to be eased.  The careless riding related only to the hampering of “THE COSSACK”.

DECISION:

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

SUBMISSIONS FOR PENALTY:

The Informant advised that Ms Sole had a very good record of only one careless riding breach over the last year, being in August 2024, and had had 244 rides during that time.  The degree of carelessness was assessed as being in the low range.

Ms Clapperton submitted that the breach was minor and Ms Sole had an excellent record.

REASONS FOR PENALTY:

As Ms Sole has riding engagements at New Plymouth in 7 days, hence on 24 May 2025, any suspension of her Licence to ride is deferred for that period.

From a starting point of 5 days suspension, she is afforded a discount of 20% (1 day) for her very good record and minor degree of carelessness.  Accordingly, her Licence to ride is suspended for 4 National Riding Days.

CONCLUSION:

Ms Sole’s suspension of Licence is to commence after the end of racing on 24 May 2025 and to finish at the completion of racing on 31 May 2025.
