Penalty: Jockey Madan Singh - suspended 5 NR Days

Following the running of Race 8, the “Tele Otaki Handicap, Mr Davidson presented an Information charging Mr M Singh with careless riding in breach of Rule 638(1)(d).

It was alleged that Mr Singh, riding “SHARE POWER”, allowed his mount to shift outwards near the 200 metre mark so as to crowd, and resulting in a check to, “DUNEAGLE” (V Colgan).

Mr Singh admitted the breach of the Rule.

The race film referred to by Mr Goodwin depicted Mr Singh’s mount “SHARE POWER” when being hard ridden in the straight, shifted outwards into the line of “DUNEAGLE” (V Colgan).  Instead of correcting this movement, Mr Singh continued to ride vigorously with the whip and inadvertently struck “DUNEAGLE” on its nose.  “DUNEAGLE” was crowded and checked at the 200 metre mark.

Mr Singh’s carelessness arose from his continuing to ride his mount with the whip and not correcting its outward movement without making any attempt to straighten it.

As the charge was admitted, it was deemed proved.

Submissions for Penalty:

Mr Davidson advised that Mr Singh had had 2 previous careless riding breaches in the previous 8 months for which he had been suspended for 4 days.  He considered this offence to be in the low range.

Mr Singh advised that he had engagements to ride during the next 10 days.  He accepted some suspension would follow but was due to ride at Tauherenikau on 3 March 2024.

Reasons for Penalty:

Accordingly, from a starting point of 4 days, an uplift was required for his record and Mr Singh’s Licence to ride was suspended for 5 National Riding Days.

Mr Singh’s suspension of Licence is to commence at the close of Racing on 3 March 2024 and to end at the conclusion of racing on 10 March 2024.
