Penalty: Driver Tony Cameron is fined $200
EVIDENCE:
Stipendiary Steward Miss P Kinsey demonstrated the incident using the available race films. She showed where near the 150 metres mark THEE OLD BOMB ducked inwards and its sulky wheel went inside one pylon. It was finishing well at the time. Mr Cameron steered it outwards from the pylons and at the same time used his whip free of the reins on one occasion and he then reverted to using the whip and reins correctly.
Mr Cameron agreed with Miss Kinsey’s assessment.
REASON FOR DECISION:
The charge is admitted
SUBMISSION FOR PENALTY:
Miss Kinsey said that the Stewards viewed this as a low range incident and submitted that a fine of $200 was appropriate.
REASON FOR PENALTY:
In the Committee’s view the incident is certainly low range and a fine of $200 is appropriate.
CONCLUSION:
Mr Cameron is ordered to pay a fine of $200. The Committee also explained to Mr Cameron that the use of the whip was an Animal Welfare issue.
